<p>Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has been officially declared re-elected for a fourth term after a vote that other contenders say was rigged.</p>
<p>The Central Election Commission said Mr Lukashenko won 79.6% of the vote, while his nearest challenger, Andrei Sannikov, got 2.4%.</p>
<p>Representatives of the opposition candidates, who attended the commission&#8217;s session, rejected Sunday&#8217;s vote as tainted by fraud.</p>
<p>Seven of the nine challengers to Mr Lukashenko were arrested after the vote, some of them when club-wielding riot police tried to disperse 10,000 demonstrators protesting at alleged fraud.</p>
<p>Mr Sannikov was among those beaten by the police. He and his wife, a prominent journalist, have both been jailed.</p>
<p>Mr Lukashenko has run a repressive regime since 1994.</p>
