<p>Singer Billy Joel is said to be recovering after double hip-replacement surgery.</p>
<p>His spokeswoman Claire Mercuri said Joel, behind such hits as Piano Man, Uptown Girl and New York State Of Mind, was &#8220;doing extremely well&#8221; after the operation.</p>
<p>She told People magazine the 61-year-old pop star had both hips replaced last week to correct a congenital condition.</p>
<p>Joel toured this year and was recently promoting the documentary film The Last Play At Shea. There was no word on when he planned to perform on stage again.</p>
