<p>Sales of Gossard lingerie have soared by 65% in the past year thanks to a recent craze for racy Burlesque fashion and dancing, according to press reports.</p>
<p>Thousands of women have taken up the exotic dance in recent months and the craze is set to gather pace following this month&#8217;s launch of the movie Burlesque starring Christina Aguilera, according to the Daily Mail.</p>
<p>Gossard managing director Tony Jarvis told the newspaper: &#8220;There is most definitely a rise of interest in old-school glamour in lingerie with a modern twist which is encapsulated in this revival.</p>
<p>&#8220;Suspenders have always sold well, but the recent demand from women of all ages has been phenomenal.&#8221;</p>
<p>Gossard said its three types of suspenders account for 15% of the company&#8217;s sales.</p>
<p>Last time there was such demand for suspender belts was in 1990, when Madonna wore one with Jean Paul Gaultier&#8217;s famous cone bra and corset during her Blond Ambition world tour, he told the newspaper.</p>
<p>Burlesque has its roots in 19th century London, and by the early 20th century had morphed into a populist blend of comedy, theatre and striptease.</p>
<p>Gossard was not available to comment.</p>
