<p>A toddler is in a serious condition in hospital following an attack by a dog, police said.</p>
<p>The two-year-old child was attacked by the animal, understood to be the family pet, in Hailsham, East Sussex.</p>
<p>A Sussex Police spokesman said: &#8220;The injuries are serious but not life-threatening.</p>
<p>&#8220;The dog will be destroyed.&#8221;</p>
<p>He said there was no further information on the dog&#8217;s breed or whether it was a pet belonging to the injured child&#8217;s family.</p>
<p>A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it attended the incident at 8.15pm.</p>
<p>She said: &#8220;It was understood the child was mauled by the family pet.</p>
<p>&#8220;The toddler was taken to hospital under blue lights, however, we don&#8217;t believe the injuries are life-threatening.&#8221;</p>
