<p>A Scots village is to be transformed into Bethlehem in the run-up to Christmas &#8211; complete with live camels.</p>
<p>A church in Carstairs, South Lanarkshire, has gone the extra mile for its nativity scene this year by drafting in the animals for a planned parade.</p>
<p>Three camels and a donkey will join Mary, Joseph and three wise men on Saturday December 18.</p>
<p>Street signs will be changed to reflect the biblical city and &#8220;no room&#8221; notices will appear in windows.</p>
<p>The local football team has agreed to get involved by dressing up as Roman soldiers.</p>
<p>The procession will start at Carstairs Junction, or `Nazareth`, at 2.30pm.</p>
<p>Reverend Alan Gibson, of the United Parish of Carstairs and Carstairs Junction, said the idea was to share the Christmas message with people in the local community who would not normally come to church.</p>
<p>He said: &#8220;Rather than waiting for people daring to cross the threshold of the church door, we thought we had to take the Christmas message outside.</p>
<p>&#8220;The parade has been designed to represent the nativity story in an engaging and thought-provoking way.</p>
<p>&#8220;We are having a Christmas market on the village green, with a choir singing carols and a manger scene, and the procession will arrive around 3pm.&#8220;</p>
