Indie band Coldplay are performing an intimate “hidden gig” in Liverpool.

The band, who will do a second hidden gig in Newcastle on Monday night, decided to put on the shows to draw attention to the “hidden problem of homelessness” and to raise funds for the charity Crisis.

The band is playing at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre and is being supported by the Choir with No Name, a vocal group made up of homeless people and others on the fringes of society.

Crisis said more than £238,000 had been raised by Coldplay fans so far.

Leslie Morphy, Chief Executive of Crisis, said: “To have the backing of Coldplay brings something unique to Crisis this Christmas.

“We know that their support and millions of fans will help shine a light on the thousands of hidden homeless people we strive to help year round who are all too often forgotten – particularly at Christmas when we know the pain of homelessness can be particularly acute.”

Both gig venues were picked by Coldplay for their intimate nature, and each have a capacity of around 1,000 people.

Good friends of the band Ant & Dec will be travelling home to Newcastle for Christmas and have offered their compering services for the concert at Newcastle’s Journal Tyne Theatre tomorrow.

As with all Crisis Hidden Gigs the venues remained a secret until 24 hours before the band were due to step on stage.
