<p>Landslides and floods after days of heavy rain in the central Philippines have killed five children.</p>
<p>The death toll includes a one-year-old baby and his five-year-old sister who were buried under mud while they slept.</p>
<p>Civil defence officials said about 1,000 residents of St Bernard township on Leyte Island have sought shelter in evacuation centres after the landslide hit on Sunday.</p>
<p>The town was the scene of one of the Philippines&#8217; worst disasters in February 2006 when a mudslide buried an entire village and more than 1,000 people in Guinsaugon.</p>
<p>Angel Gaviola, the regional civil defence chief, said the body of a three-year-old boy missing in the landslide has been found, while two other children, aged 10 and 11, drowned in the flood elsewhere in Southern Leyte province.</p>
