<p>Hugh Laurie claims he is a naturally grumpy person who doesn&#8217;t know how to have fun.</p>
<p>The British actor and former comedian has won fame and critical acclaim playing an ill-tempered doctor in hit US medical drama House and is about to release a blues album, which is fitting as bad moods seem to come naturally to him.</p>
<p>Hugh told Closer magazine: &#8220;I&#8217;m not naturally a cheerful person, I don&#8217;t know why that is.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve tried all sort of remedies, like vodka &#8211; which works, but not for very long. People say, &#8216;Have fun!&#8217; Fun? I don&#8217;t know what that is. For most of my life I&#8217;ve had people telling me to cheer up. It must be something about my face. It&#8217;s just the way I am.&#8221;Even living in Hollywood and reportedly earning over a quarter of a million pounds per episode doesn&#8217;t lighten his mood.</p>
<p>The 51-year-old star said: &#8220;My life in LA is just work. I don&#8217;t surf, I don&#8217;t rollerblade, I don&#8217;t do yoga &#8211; I just go to work.&#8221;</p>
<p>Hugh landed the part of Dr Gregory House in hit series House seven years ago, and moved to Los Angeles alone, leaving his wife Jo, 54, behind so their three children, Charlie, now 20, Bill, now 19, and Rebecca, now 16, could finish their education.</p>
<p>He said: &#8220;You have to go where the work is and sacrifice time with your family and friends. I never thought this would last seven years, just two weeks I thought. I get tired of getting up at four in the morning. Some days are harder than others.&#8221;</p>
