<p>Hundreds of Jordanians have staged a protest against their new prime minister Marouf al-Bakhit, who was named earlier this week in response to anti-government marches.</p>
<p>The leader of Jordan&#8217;s main Muslim opposition group has said he wanted to give the new prime minister a chance to form his cabinet.</p>
<p>However, more than 1,000 of his followers and other government opponents marched in the capital Amman, calling for Marouf al-Bakhit to quit.</p>
<p>Islamist and leftist activists are protesting near the prime minister&#8217;s office and in central Amman, chanting: &#8220;Down with the government.&#8221;</p>
<p>Jordan has been the scene of several large protests against rising prices in recent weeks.</p>
