<p>A man arrested in connection with a shooting in a shopping centre has been released on police bail.</p>
<p>Armed officers from West Midlands Police were called to the outside of the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham at about 2.18pm on Boxing Day.</p>
<p>A spokeswoman said a 19-year-old man sustained a gunshot injury to his leg and was treated in hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening and he has since been released.</p>
<p>She added: &#8220;A man aged 26 years was arrested in connection with the incident and has been bailed pending further inquiries.</p>
<p>&#8220;Detectives are encouraging members of the public who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.&#8221;</p>
<p>Eyewitnesses told the Birmingham Mail there appeared to be a confrontation between two groups of youths in the area between Mango and Selfridges inside the shopping centre, on one of its busiest days of the year so far.</p>
<p>More than 25,000 visitors passed through the Bullring&#8217;s doors before 12pm to take advantage of the Christmas discounts.</p>
<p>Jeff Hayben, who was working in Mango, said he heard a gunshot through the window.</p>
<p>&#8220;There wasn&#8217;t a panic as you would expect a gunshot to cause,&#8221; he told the newspaper, &#8220;but I don&#8217;t think shoppers realised what had happened. There was probably fewer people around than you would expect but then news of what had happened began to travel.&#8221;</p>
