<p>The Martian is a film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon as a botanist and astronaut (and overachiever) who gets stranded on Mars during the first mission to the red planet. Which is probably kind of a bummer as he can&#8217;t exactly call a Hailo. Out of contact with the crew which is trying to get back to Earth, he has to use his wits and kick-ass botany skills to survive in the harshest environment you could possibly imagine.</p>
<p>The first trailer made it look like a typically gorgeous and detailed number from Blade Runner and Prometheus director Scott and there&#8217;s an amazing supporting cast including Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean and Chiwetel Ejiofor. So it&#8217;s great to hear that the film is coming out sooner!</p>

<p>News via Deadline suggests that The Martian will now arrive on the 2nd of October, moving from a late November date. Given that the viral campaign for the film has already started, that&#8217;s a good four months to get everyone up to speed and also finish the no doubt copious effects work on the feature. But it&#8217;s not like Scott is a newbie director and he&#8217;s sure to have it well in hand.</p>
<p>The move comes about as a direct swap with the Daniel Radcliffe starring Victor Frankenstein, which will now bow at the end of November.</p>
