According to reports, the streaming service was so keen to have Rock on their platform that they’ve shelled out $40 million (€37 million) for two specials. The first is coming in 2017, adding to an impressive comedy porfolio already on Netflix.

The comic will be coming back to stand up after an eight year absence and this fee is said to be the largest ever offered to a comedian. Netflix managed to secure the star in a fierce bidding war with other networks including HBO, where Rock has a long history of appearing.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the first special will be recorded in 2017 as part of a world tour which is currently in the planning stages. There’s no confirmed air date yet, or an idea of when the second special will be ready for our eyes.
