		</div><p><strong>The Rev Jesse L Jackson, a protege of Martin Luther King Jr and a two-time US presidential candidate who led the civil rights movement for decades after Dr King’s assassination, has died aged 84.</p>
<p>Rev Jackson died on Tuesday at home and surrounded by family, his daughter, Santita Jackson, said. Rev. Jesse Jackson died early Tuesday after battling the neurodegenerative disorder Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.</p>
<p>Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr was a monumental figure in the American civil rights movement and a lifelong champion of justice, equality, and Black political empowerment.</p>
<p>His voice shaped generations of leaders and inspired countless Americans to believe change is possible. He was a civil rights icon, founder of Rainbow/PUSH that channelled black pride and self determination in several corporate boardrooms pressuring executives for more equitable society.</strong></p>
