<p>Sam Riley has said his Brighton Rock co-star Andrea Riseborough was &#8220;great to be horrible to&#8221;.</p>
<p>In the film the actor stars as Pinkie, a young mobster who cruelly manipulates his innocent girlfriend Rose, played by Andrea.</p>
<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s a fantastic actress. You&#8217;re only as good as the people you work with, they raise the game and she was great to be horrible to. I enjoyed it,&#8221; Sam said at the movie&#8217;s premiere in London.</p>
<p>Adapted from Graham Greene&#8217;s 1930s novel and updated to 1964, Brighton Rock follows Pinkie as he makes his way through the ranks of the town&#8217;s gang scene.</p>
<p>Sam, 31, first encountered the book in his early teens.</p>
<p>&#8220;I was about 13 so I don&#8217;t actually think I read it all the way through, it started going over my head. But it stuck with me, it&#8217;s such a weird name for a baddie and I remember thinking it was creepy,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>When asked if Pinkie had any redeeming qualities, Sam didn&#8217;t seem so sure what they were.</p>
<p>&#8220;Yeah. I can&#8217;t really think of any off the top of my head, but I&#8217;m sure there are some,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s so mixed up and complex and villainous, I&#8217;d never really played anything like that.&#8221;</p>
