<p>Russia has protested at the treatment of a British MP&#8217;s assistant accused by UK authorities of spying, which it described as unacceptable.</p>
<p>Ekaterina Zatuliveter, a former staffer for Liberal Democrat Mike Hancock, was released on bail and faced no charges after last month&#8217;s arrest.</p>
<p>But she still has to obey strict bail conditions while waiting for a hearing on her deportation in October.</p>
<p>Ms Zatuliveter denies any wrongdoing.</p>
<p>Russia&#8217;s Foreign Ministry has said that the decision &#8220;dooms&#8221; Ms Zatuliveter to almost a year of conditions &#8220;little different from house arrest&#8221;.</p>
<p>It called on immigration officials to either charge her with something or to lift the restrictions on her movements.</p>
