<p>US authorities said more than 80 people who were stuck on a ski lift at a north-east Ohio resort have been safely rescued.</p>
<p>Chief Scott Hildenbrand of the Hambden Fire Department said the lift stalled at Alpine Valley in nearby Munson Township around 2.30pm on Saturday.</p>
<p>He said about 85 skiers and snowboarders were dangling in chairs about 30 feet above the ground. Crews used ropes and a pulley to lower them to safety.</p>
<p>The rescue was over by 5.30pm.</p>
<p>George Shaffer, a manager for Alpine Valley, said it appears a broken gear caused the lift to stall. He said the resort remains open and plans are in the works to repair the lift.</p>
<p>He said there was no danger of skiers or snowboarders falling or the lift derailing.</p>
<p>Rescuers threw them blankets so they would stay warm.</p>
