<p>How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders has reportedly landed a role in The Avengers.</p>
<p>According to Variety, the Canadian actress is wrapping up a deal to appear in the movie, which is being penned and directed by Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon.</p>
<p>Cobie is said to be playing Maria Hill, the sidekick of Samuel L Jackson&#8217;s character Nick Fury in the new film.</p>
<p>The Disney film would mark the first major film outing for the actress, who apparently was once considered for Joss&#8217;s adaptation of Wonder Woman at Warner Bros.</p>
<p>Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson are among the other stars in the ensemble.</p>
<p>The Avengers is due for release in the US in May 2012.</p>
