<p>For cyclists worried about venturing out in the snow, a specially converted snow-bike could be the answer.</p>
<p>Using a single ski blade and a caterpillar track instead of wheels, the snow-bike gives better traction than a conventional bike in the snow, according to a cycling breakdown company.</p>
<p>The Environmental Transport Association (ETA), which offers insurance and breakdown cover for cyclists, adapted a normal mountain bike for the snow using a kit imported from Canada.</p>
<p>The set, sold by K-Trak, costs £600 and fits to any bicycle, replacing the front wheel with a ski blade and the rear wheel with a caterpillar track.</p>
<p>Yannick Read, a spokesman for ETA, said he tested it at the indoor ski slope at Xscape in Milton Keynes.</p>
<p>He said: &#8220;It works beautifully. People assume you&#8217;re going to be much more vulnerable on a bike but even a regular bicycle is remarkably good in snow.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is even better because it gives you lots of traction. It&#8217;s a lot of fun to ride.&#8221;</p>
<p>Mr Read said the snow-bike could make a good alternative to a snowboard.</p>
<p>He added: &#8220;If people want an alternative to a snowboard, it&#8217;s the kind of thing you can take with you on the ski slope.</p>
<p>&#8220;The message is that you can cycle year-round. This morning was one of the best rides of the year for me, it was great fun.&#8221;</p>
