<p>A German soldier has been killed and at least eight others wounded after a man wearing an Afghan National Army uniform fired at coalition troops working on a vehicle in northern Afghanistan.</p>
<p>Nato said the shooting, which is still being investigated, occurred before noon on Friday inside a coalition compound in the Baghlan provincial capital of Pul-e-Khumri.</p>
<p>Coalition troops returned fire, critically injuring the gunman, Nato said.</p>
<p>At least eight people also died earlier in a suicide bombing in Khost province along the Afghan border with Pakistan.</p>
<p>The Taliban claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing, which targeted a police station.</p>
<p>Two policemen &#8211; a patrolman and an officer &#8211; were among the dead, said Abdul-Hakim Isaqzai, the police chief of Khost province, which borders Pakistan.</p>
<p>&#8220;It was very powerful. It shook Khost city,&#8221; he said of the blast. Amir Pacha, director of hospitals in the province, said at least 30 other people, mostly civilians, were wounded in the blast.</p>
