<p>The United States has held talks with democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi about US assistance to Burma, which is currently restricted because of sanctions.</p>
<p>A US State Department official said the US Embassy was also engaging with Burma authorities and other stakeholders on the issue &#8220;to consider important perspectives in formulating US government policies&#8221;.</p>
<p>Ms Suu Kyi has recently endorsed retaining international sanctions against Burma, which angered the ruling military.</p>
<p>However, her party also called for discussions with the United States and other nations about when and how sanctions might be modified.</p>
