<p>An investigation has been launched into the deaths of a British couple found dead in their hotel room in Thailand.</p>
<p>George and Eileen Everitt, from Boston in Lincolnshire, were in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, when they died on Saturday.</p>
<p>The couple had been on holiday in the country since February 9 but the cause of their deaths is not yet known.</p>
<p>Thai police told the BBC that the couple were found dead in their room at the DownTown Inn.</p>
<p>They said Mrs Everitt, 74, was found lying on the bed, while Mr Everitt, 78, was in a sitting position on the floor, with his face falling forward on to the bed.</p>
<p>Police said no drugs, medicine or poison were found in the room.</p>
<p>Nor was there any evidence of violence or fighting in the room or any wound on their bodies.</p>
<p>A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said an investigation has been launched to try to establish how the couple died.</p>
<p>She added: &#8220;We are in touch with the family and are helping them through this very difficult time.&#8221;</p>
