<p>Athens transport unions are staging a new strike against planned public sector reforms, leading to queues on the Greek capital&#8217;s streets as commuters instead travelled to work by car or taxi.</p>
<p>Bus and trolley bus workers are holding a two-day strike, while metro employees defied a court order to walk off the job.</p>
<p>The walkouts came as new ticket increases of up to 80% kicked in on Tuesday.</p>
<p>Unions plan further strikes later in the week to protest against a planned restructuring of loss-making public transport companies that will lead to pay cuts and involuntary staff transfers. </p>
<p>They have held a string of strikes over the past two months.</p>
<p>Greece avoided bankruptcy last year through a 110 billion euro (£94 billion) international rescue loan package. In return, the socialist government took unpopular austerity measures.</p>
