<p>Two 16-year-olds have been killed after a car crashed into a tree and a garden wall.</p>
<p>Police in Merseyside are appealing for witnesses after a silver Peugeot 207 lost control at the junction of the East Lancashire Road and Townsend Avenue in Walton, Liverpool, at around 4.55am on Sunday morning.</p>
<p>It is not yet known if the crash was caused by the Arctic weather conditions.</p>
<p>The two teenage boys who died, who were from Walton, were both passengers in the car.</p>
<p>One was declared dead at the scene while the other was taken to hospital but later died.</p>
<p>The 21-year-old driver of the car, from the Norris Green area, is in a critical condition in hospital.</p>
<p>It is believed the car was travelling out of the city along Walton Lane and Walton Hall Avenue.</p>
<p>The road was closed while police carried out an examination of the scene.</p>
<p>A spokesman for Merseyside Police said it was not clear at this stage what caused the driver to lose control of the car.</p>
