<p>A mother in the US is defending her decision to put her teenage son on a street corner in Florida with a sign that says, among other things, &#8220;GPA 1.22 &#8230; honk if I need education.&#8221;</p>
<p>Ronda Holder, of Tampa Bay, said she and the boy&#8217;s father have tried everything to get their 15-year-old to shape up academically after his grade point average (GPA) &#8211; which is measured between one and four &#8211; was particularly low. </p>
<p>They&#8217;ve offered help, asked to see homework, grounded him, lectured him and confiscated his mobile phone. </p>
<p>James Mond&#8217;s indifference at a school meeting last week was the final straw, she said, and the next day she made the sign and got him to wear it for nearly four hours.</p>
<p>Experts criticised the move as humiliating and ineffective, and someone reported Ms Holder to the Department of Children and Families.</p>
<p>Ms Holder insists she is fighting for her child&#8217;s education.</p>
