<p>Winter&#8217;s Bone leads the pack in this year&#8217;s Spirit Awards nominations, having earned a whopping seven nods. </p>
<p>Following its success at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, the bleak drama scooped nominations for best picture and acting honours for Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes and Dale Dickey.</p>
<p>The Kids Are All Right came second with five nominations, including a best-actress honour for Annette Bening and a supporting-actor slot for Mark Ruffalo.</p>
<p>Eva Mendes and Jeremy Renner read out the nominations in Los Angeles, with Danny Boyle&#8217;s survival tale 127 Hours, Natalie Portman&#8217;s ballet drama Black Swan, Ben Stiller&#8217;s dark romance Greenberg and The Kids Are All Right also picking up best picture nods.</p>
<p>Presented by the cinema group Film Independent, the awards honour independent movies.</p>
<p>&#8220;The artistic side of independent film is stronger than ever, and it&#8217;s especially impressive to see the developed craft of extraordinary independent filmmakers who have only gotten better over the years,&#8221; said Film Independent executive director Dawn Hudson. </p>
<p>Along with Jennifer, Annette and Natalie; Greta Gerwig, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams also won best actress nominations, while James Franco, Ben Stiller, Ronald Bronstein, Aaron Eckhart and John C Reilly are up for best actor.</p>
<p>The Spirit Awards will be presented on February 26, the day before the Academy Awards. </p>
