<p>An explosion has torn through a beer garden at a Nigerian army barracks where revellers had gathered to celebrate New Year&#8217;s Eve.A top air force official said it was caused by a &#8220;planted bomb&#8221;.</p>
<p>Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petirin told journalists the bomb was placed where &#8220;people are relaxing because of the new year&#8221;.</p>
<p>Air Chief Marshal Petirin said there was no immediate count of the injured or dead, but an Associated Press journalist saw police begin to carry bodies from the scene.</p>
<p>The blast occurred about in Abuja, the capital of oil-rich Nigeria.</p>
<p>The bomb was planted in an area of market stalls and beer parlours referred to locally as a &#8220;mammy market&#8221;.</p>
<p>There, civilians and soldiers regularly gather for meals and drinks.</p>
