<p>A bomb has exploded at a beer garden at a Nigerian army barracks where revellers had gathered to celebrate New Year&#8217;s Eve. State-TV says 30 people have been killed.</p>
<p>An anchor on the state-run Nigerian Television Authority gave that death toll. The channel did not give an estimate on the number of people injured.</p>
<p>Air Marshal Oluseyi Petirin, the air force&#8217;s top official, told journalists the bomb was placed where &#8220;people are relaxing because of the new year&#8221;.</p>
<p>The blast occurred about 7:30 pm in Abuja, the capital of oil-rich Nigeria.</p>
<p>The bomb was planted in an area of market stalls and beer parlours referred to locally as a &#8220;mammy market&#8221;. Civilians and soldiers regularly gather there for meals and drinks.</p>
