Airlines using Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport have been asked to cut flights by half for several hours due to a shortage of de-icing liquid for planes.

Civil aviation authorities said stocks of glycol are low and, with predictions of below-freezing temperatures, airlines should cut flights by 50%.

The order came just as backlogs of passengers waiting for a flight at Paris’s two main airports eased after days of major weather-related congestion.
