<p>Colin Firth and Natalie Portman have taken top acting honours at the 83rd Academy Awards, while The King&#8217;s Speech was named Best Picture.</p>
<p>Colin won the Best Actor Honour for his role in The King&#8217;s Speech, while pregnant Portman won her Best Actress Oscar for her role in Black Swan.</p>
<p>An emotional Firth told the audience: &#8220;I have a feeling my career has just peaked,&#8221; and joked he wanted to leave the stage before he embarrassed himself by dancing with joy.</p>
<p>He also thanked his British fans, paying tribute to &#8220;all the people who have been rooting for me back home&#8221;.</p>
<p>A tearful Portman paid tribute to the other actresses that were up for the award, saying she wished &#8220;the prize tonight was to get to work with my fellow nominees&#8221;.</p>
<p>The team behind The King&#8217;s Speech was presented with the Best Picture award by Steven Spielberg. Producer Iain Canning thanked the &#8220;best of British crew&#8221; and the film&#8217;s &#8220;acting royalty&#8221;.</p>
<p>Tom Hooper won the Best Director Oscar and described it as an &#8220;extraordinary honour&#8221;. The King&#8217;s Speech filmmaker also paid tribute to his leading actors and &#8220;the triangle of man love that is Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and me. I&#8217;m only here because of you guys&#8221;.</p>
<p>Writer David Seidler picked up the award for best original screenplay for the film about the British monarchy. </p>
<p>Veteran actor Kirk Douglas came on stage to a standing ovation to present the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Melissa Leo for The Fighter. The Best Supporting Actor award went to Christian Bale for the same film.</p>
<p>West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin picked up the Best Adapted Screenplay award for his work on the Facebook film The Social Network.</p>
