<p>James Franco has revealed he only said yes to hosting next year&#8217;s Oscars because he was advised against it.</p>
<p>The 127 Hours star will co-host the Academy Awards ceremony in 2011 with Anne Hathaway and revealed to Entertainment Weekly his initial reaction when he was offered the job was to say no. But being advised against it by his agents made him decide to take a risk.</p>
<p>James revealed: &#8220;My initial reaction was &#8216;no&#8217;, then I thought about it and I thought, well, why not? Because I&#8217;ll look bad? Well, I don&#8217;t care.</p>
<p>&#8220;When we finally met and discussed it in person, all my representatives were saying, &#8216;No! Of course not!&#8217;</p>
<p>&#8220;So that always sparks something in me. So I said, &#8216;Yes, of course!&#8217;. Because that reaction that they have is based on conventional wisdom of what makes a good career. And that can be boring &#8211; really boring.&#8221;</p>
<p>James, 32, said he was &#8220;very, very surprised&#8221; when Oscar producer Bruce Cohen, who he worked with on Milk, asked him to host.</p>
<p>But he has now got used to the idea and doesn&#8217;t even care how it goes.</p>
<p>He said: &#8220;I&#8217;m happy to take the criticism. Even if it&#8217;s &#8216;the worst Oscars ever&#8217;, I don&#8217;t care. It&#8217;s one night of the year.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m front and centre, but&#8221;, he added: &#8220;I feel confident.&#8221;</p>
