<p>Jim Sturgess has revealed he went on a diet to play an escaped prisoner in The Way Back.</p>
<p>The 29-year-old actor stars alongside Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan and Ed Harris in Peter Weir&#8217;s new film about soldiers who escaped from a Siberian gulag in 1940, which saw them shooting their long trek to freedom on location in snow and the desert.</p>
<p>Jim said: &#8220;I didn&#8217;t starve myself but I definitely put myself on a diet. I wanted to see what if felt like to go for an entire day, which I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever done before, without eating anything. </p>
<p>&#8220;Just to see what kind of cramps you get, whatever that feels like. But I don&#8217;t think I starved myself. Maybe for one day.&#8221;</p>
<p>But Jim admitted filming in the Sahara Desert meant he wasn&#8217;t very hungry anyway.</p>
<p>He revealed: &#8220;The pure nature of being out in the desert didn&#8217;t make you want to eat anyway really &#8211; when you&#8217;re in the middle of the Sahara Desert out in the baking heat.</p>
<p>&#8220;You&#8217;d go in the lunch queue for food and there&#8217;d be flies all over the lamb or whatever and you&#8217;d be like &#8216;I think I&#8217;ll just have a bit of rice or a bit of bread&#8217;.&#8221;</p>
