<p>Two people have been arrested over the theft of a meerkat.</p>
<p>The animal went missing from its enclosure at Wingham Wildlife Park, near Canterbury, Kent, on December 29.</p>
<p>Its body was then discovered in a bin in Sandwich earlier this month after a member of the public reported seeing it being run over by a car nearby.</p>
<p>A Kent Police spokeswoman said a 47-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man from the Sandwich area had been arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of drugs.</p>
<p>The pair have been bailed until March 9 pending further inquiries.</p>
