Beyonce to headline Glastonbury

Beyonce will perform on Glastonbury's main Pyramid Stage

Beyonce is to close this year’s Glastonbury Festival with a headline slot.

The Crazy In Love singer has announced she’ll perform on the main Pyramid Stage with a 90-minute show to round off this summer’s event on Sunday June 26.

She follows in the footsteps of husband Jay-Z who topped the bill at Glasto in 2008 – an appearance that divided many festival-goers who were unhappy at a hip-hop act in a headline slot.

Beyonce said: “This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend.

“I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”

She attended the rural event at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, in 2008 to see Jay-Z’s Saturday night show.

This year’s festival is already a sell-out despite, as has now become common custom, organisers not announcing the main acts until much nearer the time.

In 2010 the headliners included Stevie Wonder and Gorillaz, a last-minute replacement for U2 who dropped out after singer Bono suffered a back injury.

Beyonce played to 1.1 million fans during her most recent I Am … World Tour, which ended a year ago.
