Brazil lawmakers have won an historic vote to abolish the six-day working week to five days delivering a signature campaign promise of President Inacio Lula da Silva.
The Senate approved by a majority of 75 votes against one. This new reform will see a reduction of the workweek to 40 hours without affecting wages and having two paid days off.
This historic move is a major political victory for Inácio da Silva, who has an election run-off on the 25 October 2026 but mostly a great victory for millions of workers in the Latin America’s largest economy.
