Cher and Christina Aguilera added a little sex appeal to Leicester Square at the premiere of their new film Burlesque.

Singer Aguilera braved the cold in a low-cut, figure hugging black Stella McCartney dress and a fake fur wrap, while Cher showed of bright red hair and kept warm with a leather jacket over her sheer Julien Macdonald gown.

The musical and dance extravaganza is Aguilera’s film debut and Cher’s return to the big screen after a seven-year break.

Director Steven Antin revealed he begged the 64-year-old star to take the part of Burlesque nightclub owner Tess, and claimed he tap danced to persuade her.

Asked why she accepted the role Cher said: “I wanted to sing in a film.”

She added: “Yes, he did beg me. They all begged me and kept saying ‘no, no’, and suddenly I found myself on the stage.”

The singer revealed she enjoyed bonding with the female cast on the film.

She said: “It was really fun. The girls mostly were together and it was fun being about that many women, sitting around talking during the breaks. We got friendly.”

Aguilera, 29, who plays aspiring singer Ali, was honoured to work with Cher and learn from her.

She said: “She’s absolutely amazing. She’s a beautiful person inside and out and I learned a great deal from working with her.”
