A toddler is in a serious condition in hospital following an attack by a dog, police said.
The two-year-old child was attacked by the animal, understood to be the family pet, in Hailsham, East Sussex.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
“The dog will be destroyed.”
He said there was no further information on the dog’s breed or whether it was a pet belonging to the injured child’s family.
A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it attended the incident at 8.15pm.
She said: “It was understood the child was mauled by the family pet.
“The toddler was taken to hospital under blue lights, however, we don’t believe the injuries are life-threatening.”
