Michael Douglas will be “phenomenal” as Liberace, co-star Matt Damon has said.
The Wall Street star, who has recently battled throat cancer, will be portraying the flamboyant entertainer in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming biopic, with Matt playing love interest Scott Thorsen.
“This Liberace script is just wonderful – Michael’s going to be just phenomenal in that part,” he told the Orlando Sentinel, adding: “We’re shooting that in 2012.”
Matt – whose next screen outing is in The Adjustment Bureau with Emily Blunt – plans to persuade filmmaker Steven to postpone his retirement once they start filming.
“I’ve definitely got him on the hook for one more. Hopefully, on the set of Liberace I can convince him to do another one,” he continued.
“I’ve talked at length with Steven about it. He is going away for a while, I think. He genuinely wants to paint. And he feels if he really dedicates himself he can be really good.”
Matt said the filmmaker had a work ethic like no one else he’d ever seen.
He added: “I see it as a waste of this incredible depth of knowledge of filmmaking. We need good directors.”
