David Arquette has opened up to Oprah about his marriage breakdown and his difficult childhood.
The Scream 4 star told the chat show host he still loves estranged wife Courteney Cox, with whom he has a six-year-old daughter Coco, and he would love their relationship to work out, as he confessed his battles with alcohol.
David said: “I’d love for it to work out. We truly love each other with all our hearts.”
He went on: “Whether it’s as friends or as husband and wife, I know that I’ll be with her my whole life.
“I want her to be happy. If me being the best person I can be doesn’t make her happy in a partner, in who she needs, whatever she’s looking for, that’s still to be answered. She’s my best friend, and I love her with all my heart.”
The 39-year-old actor, who separated from Courteney last year after 11 years of marriage and checked into rehab in January, revealed he had had a difficult relationship with alcohol all his life.
He said: “When I had my first drink of beer, I must have been four-years-old.
“I was down in the basement with my dad and beer was there and I just grabbed it and drank it. And I remember that. It’s one of my earliest memories.
“I seriously started drinking probably when I was about 12. I stole pot from my father when I was eight years old.”
He told how he awoke after a drinking bender in Miami in January to find his sister Patricia Arquette, Courteney, his best friend and his business partner all there and he realised it was time to check into rehab.
