Death toll hits 16 in Afghan attack

The death toll has risen to 16 in a Taliban attack on a police headquarters in southern Afghanistan, the governor’s office of Kandahar province said.

The assailants were wearing explosives vests and were armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

Car bombs were also detonated during the assault.

The governor’s spokesman, Zalmai Ayubi, said one civilian was among those killed; the rest were Afghan policemen.
