Firth still taking in Bafta win

Must read

Colin Firth was still getting his head around his second consecutive Bafta win

Colin Firth said he was “trying to process” having picked up his second acting Bafta in a row for his performance in The King’s Speech.

Hearing that only he and Dame Judi Dench shared this honour, the actor said: “To be in the same sentence is quite something so trying to process it is amazing.

Asked how he felt about reports that the Queen had liked the film, he said: “It would mean an enormous amount if that were to be the case, even if the person you were playing had a living daughter who wasn’t the queen it would be important, but I have noticed the fact that it is The Queen and it is something that I will cherish.”

Colin’s co-star and fellow Bafta winner Helena Bonham Carter revealed how the pair kept each other entertained on set with pranks.

Helena, who played the Queen Mother in The King’s Speech, revealed they both enjoyed playing with an app on their mobile phones that imitated breaking wind. Helena said: “That was really the foundation of our relationship.”

The Alice In Wonderland star revealed she and Colin now plan to use the app to keep the boredom of the long Oscars ceremony at bay.

But Colin denied all knowledge of the prank, saying: “I don’t know what she’s talking about. I don’t have the technology in any sense of the word.”
