Two French hostages captured in Niger were killed during a rescue attempt involving French forces, the country’s defence minister has said.
A statement from French minister Alain Juppe said the hostages, who have not been identified, were found dead at the Niger-Mali border after a clash with the kidnappers.
The pair were kidnapped while dining at a restaurant on Friday night in the Niger capital Niamey.
