Iran 'arms smuggler' caught by Nato

Must read

A man suspected of smuggling weapons from Iran to the Taliban in Afghanistan is being held by Nato

A man suspected of smuggling weapons from Iran to the Taliban in Afghanistan is being held by Nato, the alliance said.

But it said he was not a member of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard, contrary to news reports.

The reports had said he was a member of a Revolutionary Guard unit responsible for operations outside the country.

Nato said initial intelligence reports led it to believe that the individual – believed to be involved in the movement of weapons between Iran and the southern Afghan province of Kandahar – was a member of the Guard’s Quds Force.

Further investigation revealed he was not linked to the unit.

Iran has been accused of aiding the Taliban and other insurgents in Afghanistan through funding and weapons.
