Janet Jackson has revealed she didn’t expect to get on with her co-stars in new film For Colored Girls.
The 44-year-old singer and actress stars alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Thandie Newton in Tyler Perry’s adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s 1975 stage play, but admitted she expected the all-female ensemble cast to be a struggle.
Janet said: “I haven’t done a lot of films with a lot of women and both times it’s really been a wonderful experience and it doesn’t always turn out that way from what I hear, so I’ve been very fortunate.”
Janet’s character Jo is an outsider in the film, but she learns to bond with the sisterhood.
She said: “It’s really about bonding to me – for Alice and her children, for myself and Crystal, for myself and Juanita, for Kelly and the women – it’s just about really bonding and having a connection and this community, this group of women coming together and really being there.”
::For Colored Girls is released in cinemas on Friday December 10
