Londoners Say No To Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ Expansion

Must read

Thousands of Londoners descended on Whitehall on Saturday protesting against the Mayor’s proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone, (ULEZ ) expansion plans.

London Mayor, Sadiq Khan is expanding the ultra low emissions zone that is currently in place in central London to all the other London Boroughs from the 29th of August 2023. He claims that this is necessary to help clear up London’s air quality that is presently impacting the health of Londoners caused by polluting vehicles.

This new scheme is seen by most Londoners as another money grabbing operation hence the big revolt against it. The ULEZ scheme has emission standards set where vehicles that doesn’t meet the standard pay £12.50 charge daily to drive around London. Majority of people have always been against this scheme right from the beginning but Sadiq Khan continued setting up ULEZ disregarding all the people’s voices.

ULEZ Expansion has been hugely unpopular that defacing of lights and cameras have now become a regular occurrence around London. Amongst the thousands against it is former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson who has slammed the ULEZ expansion saying it has nothing to do with pollution.

Saturday’s London protests saw a high turnout of Londoners including thousands of regular Londoners, business owners and members of parliament.

‘There’s a worry that he always planned to do this and was never going to listen to Londoners’ says Shaun Bailey, Conservative MP for West Bromwich West.
Several councils including Harrow, Hillingdon and Surrey have taken the Mayor to court to stand trial for his potentially unlawful decision on the ULEZ expansion

Sadiq Khan faces a high court challenge this summer to defend this expansion.
