Mariah Carey and James Packer are engaged

Must read

Could the third time be a charm for Mariah Carey? The singer is set to tie the knot to Australian billionaire James Packer, a spokeswoman for the superstar has confirmed.

Carey, 45, and Packer, 48, have been dating since the summer of 2015 after meeting at a movie premiere in Aspen, Colorado in 2014 and she shared this cute picture of the pair just a week ago.

The Australian businessman proposed to the singer on January 21 with a 35-carat diamond and platinum ring designed by Wilfredo Rosado.

Carey has been married twice before and has twins, Moroccan and Monroe, with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

Rosado told Vogue.com: “I took the standards super high, and I wanted to create a ring that could not be measured up to.”

He added: “She obviously has a strong point of view about what she likes. We have the same taste, and when it came down to it, I really wanted to create something for her that was about new beginnings. I wanted to give her something super sophisticated and something that took away all of the embellishments that a lot of people use when they design engagement rings these days. But it is epic. It’s an epic ring for an epic time in her life.”

The designer, who is an old friend of Carey’s, said Packer was involved in the design process, adding: “He wanted to create something very rare and very beautiful around this diamond he chose, and I followed his lead.”

The pair spent the festive period in Aspen, Colorado, where they first met and Mariah shared this snap of the couple enjoying the snow last month.

They then jetted to Packer’s native Australia to see in the new year and Mariah posted this picture of them playing it cool on the big night.

Carey will be returning to the UK in March for her Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour, her first European tour in 13 years.

She will start in Glasgow on March 15 before playing shows in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and the O2 Arena in London.
