Coldplay want to make their next album their “masterpiece”, frontman Chris Martin has revealed.
The hit band – singer Chris, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion – are currently writing and recording their follow-up to 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.
Chris told NME magazine: “We still don’t think we’ve delivered our masterpiece, so we’re still trying to do it. As long as we feel like that and we’re hungry… that’s all that matters.”
The chart-toppers, who have been working with producers Brian Eno and Marcus Dravs, have a huge amount of material for their next offering – their fifth studio album – which they are trying to slim down.
New songs include Princess Of China and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall.
Chris told the new issue of the music mag: “The worst mistake we could make, when we’re the most Marmite-y of bands, would be to make a super-long thing.”
