Nine teenagers have been arrested following a stabbing in Swindon.

Wiltshire Police say the alleged attack happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday near Coral Bookmakers, in Wharf Green.

An 18-year-old man was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with several puncture wounds to his back.

A force spokesman said on Sunday: “He remains in a serious condition this morning.

“The nine teenagers arrested in connection with the incident are all male and aged between 13 and 18. They remain in police custody at this stage.

”Sergeant Gareth Kitchener, who described the incident as “violent”, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He added: “I would like to urgently appeal to those people who have not already been spoken to by police, to contact us immediately. Any information you have, no matter how small, may be crucial to our investigations.

“Understandably, incidents like this will cause concern amongst the local community. I would like to reassure residents that we are conducting a thorough and robust investigation into the incident.”
