Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have revealed their road trip across America was almost more eventful than their new comedy Paul.
The Hot Fuzz stars – who play sci-fi geeks who accidentally meet an alien while on holiday – went on a tour of America to find inspiration before writing the script.
Simon revealed: “So much happened to us on that trip that’s in the film. We hit a bird, we got slightly terrorised by some weird guys at a motel.”
Nick added: “We had barbecues every night.”
But the pair admitted they got more than they bargained for when they started their trip.
Nick said: “You look at it on a map and think, ‘All right, we can probably do that in three or four days’. Then after a day’s driving for 10 or 11 hours, you’ve only gone 300 miles and you’ve got to travel 2,000 miles.”
And shooting Paul in New Mexico had its challenges too.
Simon said: “It’s one of the most changeable places in the world.
“It would be blazing sunshine one minute and 20 minutes later there’d be hailstones the size of golf balls.”
:: Paul is released in cinemas on Monday, February 14
