The average family will travel up to 207 miles over the festive period, making five stops to drop off the 37 presents bought for friends and family, according to a survey.
The average spent on these gifts is £520.49, according to a poll of 3,000 households by car company Saab UK.
Only 15% of those taking trips to relatives or friends will travel on Christmas Day, with 36% making journeys before Christmas Eve.
Those living in north-east England appear to be the most generous, with 43% of them planning to exchange more than 20 presents with family members this Christmas.
Those in Northern Ireland intend to make the most trips, with 17% planning more than eight visits to friends and family this festive season.
The poll showed that 10% admitted to breaking or damaging presents when trying to squeeze them into a car, with 17% forced to leave gifts behind due to lack of space.
As many as 26% said they needed another break after the Christmas holiday to recover from all the festive travelling, with 50% intending not to give as many presents again and 25% vowing not to travel so far next Christmas.
