The ballot has closed for this year’s Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon, but there are still a number of charity places available for one of the most beautiful and iconic half marathons anywhere in the world.
The stunning 13.1 mile route takes in the capital’s world-famous landmarks on closed roads and through four of London’s eight Royal Parks, Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. As well as running through these historic parks, competitors will also take in iconic landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament, making it one of the greenest and most scenic half marathons in any city.
The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon also provides a spectacular ‘Food and Fitness Festival’ for those who come to support their friends and family. There will be a wide range of sporting and creative activities for all to try, a tempting food market, live music and entertainment.
Head of Major Events at Royal Parks Foundation, Sally Barney, said: “This year the event will be in its ninth year and the demand for places continues to grow. We had record numbers apply again to take part in the ballot, but if you were unable to secure a place then there is still an opportunity to take part by applying for a charity place.
Ms Barney added: “The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon remains one of the most scenic half marathons in the world and offers runners the opportunity to take in some of London’s most historic landmarks along the way.”
Virgin Money Giving, the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon official fundraising partner, saw a 73% increase in the number of fundraising pages set up in 2015 compared to the previous year and there are still plenty of places available among some of the 394 charities with places in this year’s race.
The event’s ‘Golden Oak’ charities – the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Scope, Tommy’s, Cancer Research UK and the Royal Parks Foundation – are putting out the largest teams on the day. Charity applications close on 19 August, but are likely to be allocated well ahead of this date.
